DESCRIPTION

Project SIMOY aims to monitor the air quality of residential areas near waste disposal sites to aid in determining whether the levels of hazardous gasses are dangerous for the health of the residents. Specifically, it aims to determine the presence of the hazardous gasses methane and hydrogen sulfide, and the concentration of particulate matter with diameters less than 10 μm through an MQ 4 gas sensor, an MQ 136 gas sensor, and a Sharp GP2Y1010AU0F dust Sensor respectively. Readings collected by each sensor is displayed on an OLED. The device is composed of an Arduino UNO microcontroller and a power supply, all enclosed inside a 3D-printed casing. Project SIMOY notifies residents of the current status of the mentioned parameters through the social networking site Twitter. The device successfully detects the presence and concentrations of the mentioned parameters present around the area. Therefore, PROJECT SIMOY is capable of helping warning the residents.
